Critical Skills

The Ultimate Corporate Scorecard

Nearly 50 years after losing 773 aircraft in 1950, Naval Aviation rested comfortably averaging only 10 losses per year by 1995. Suddenly, the accident rate doubled in only one year, and the Navy had to face a hard truth - it had baselined. The solution? DAMCLAS: the Seven Critical Skills of High Performance Organizations.

  • Decision Making: The ability to choose a course of action using logical and sound judgment based on the available information.

  • Assertiveness: The willingness to actively participate, state, and maintain a position until convinced by the facts that other options are better.

  • Mission Analysis: The ability to develop short-term, long-term, and contingency plans, and to coordinate, allocate, and monitor all resources.

  • Communication: The ability to clearly and accurately send and receive information, instructions, or commands, and to provide useful feedback.

  • Leadership: The ability to direct and coordinate the activities of others, and to encourage everyone to work together as a team.

  • Adaptability: The ability to alter a game plan based on new data, maintain presence under pressure, and adapt to internal and external changes.

  • Situational Awareness: The degree of accuracy by which one’s perception of the current environment mirrors reality amid an intense pace of operations.

Jeff has helped businesses around the world incorporate the Seven Critical Skills into their everyday operation. His clients learn to recognize baselining before its damaging effects take hold, setting the bar higher as they learn to compete with themselves - not others. He also gives back to the community that has done so much for him, teaching a Corporate Leadership Program based on the principles of TOPGUN at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business.
